How and Why We Fell in Love with B corp

LINK PBC became a Colorado Public Benefit Corporation in January 2025: our first formal and measurable commitment to designing with impact. This isn’t just a label; it is the heartbeat of our business and ensures that all future growth and strategy are accountable to our foundational mission.

Central to our benefit is our aspiration to create, nurture, and participate in community of businesses and organizations that share our values. From the outset, we actively sought these partners, and it wasn’t long before we found B Local Colorado and the greater B Lab movement.

We were heartened and inspired by the perfect alignment of this movement with our mission. Through B Lab US & Canada, we have tapped into a vibrant network of businesses committed to building a better world and transforming the global economy through racial equity, climate justice, and a stakeholder economy. Joining this movement allows us to leverage the knowledge, experience, and insights of like-minded companies to strengthen both our business and our impact. What an honor to find a community where we can both be of service and receive support in return!

Do We Fit In?

Inspired by other Colorado PBCs and Certified B Corporations like Project Canary and Namaste Solar, we read and researched and learned as much as we could.

Was it too soon to start the process? Despite our decades of experience, LINK PBC hadn’t yet been in business for a full year, which made us ineligible for full B Corp Certification. No problem! With encouragement from our friends at B Local Colorado, we pursued Pending B Corp status. This meant completing the full impact assessment and all necessary documentation so we’ll be ready for our complete submission in January 2026. Instead of waiting, we’re weaving B Corp principles into the very fabric of our organization, steering our growth towards sustainability, transparency, and human-centric goals.

Are we too small for the B Corp framework? Not at all! We’ve gotten to know B Corps that range from sole-proprietor LLCs to industry giants, demonstrating to us that the framework works for businesses of all sizes. We started 2025 with just three employees and are ending the year with five! Engaging with B Lab’s standards early on has empowered us to think ahead, not just about our current team, but all future stakeholders. We’re establishing processes and benefits that can evolve alongside us.

Our product is our service; how does that affect the B Corp process? We sought guidance on how to effectively navigate the B Impact Assessment tools, and we found no shortage of support from B Lab and fellow service-industry members within the B Corp community. We had to expand our perspective on impact; while we’re particularly passionate about the meaningful products we develop with our clients, we also recognized the importance of assessing our internal operations and overall product development process. Now, we’re evaluated not just on the end products we design, but also on our business practices, human resources, prototyping processes, and every engagement with vendors and clients.

Laying the Foundation

The B Corp certification process is thorough and intensive. After completing our first B Impact Assessment, we uncovered numerous opportunities for improvement — both by formalizing processes and commitments that had previously been implicit and by revealing aspects of our business that we hadn’t yet considered.

We developed essential internal resources, such as our Core Values, Bylaws and Employee Handbook, and we refined our agreements for contractors, suppliers, and all stakeholders to be more holistic and mission-driven. We set clear goals in our Sustainability Policy and strengthened our governance framework by building out our Board of Directors and Board of Advisors.

Our commitment to the B Corp movement has inspired us to be proactive in establishing these practices and policies, encouraging a culture of forward-thinking and continuous improvement.

Throughout 2025, as we first contemplated certification and then as we prepared for submission, we explored the B Local Colorado community. We attended networking events, trivia nights, and virtual learning sessions, and we participated in the 2025 Mountain West B Corp Leadership Development workshop. At all steps along the way, we received invaluable guidance and were warmly welcomed by this generous group of local business leaders.

Looking Forward

We are thrilled to continue this journey toward full certification in 2026. B Corp Certification isn’t the finish line; it is the framework that drives us to continual improvement. It gives us accountability and direction. It provides our stakeholders with transparency and confidence. And it strengthens our team’s commitment to and engagement with our fundamental mission.
