LINK designed, engineered, and facilitated the manufacturing of a new area lighting system for Evergreen Applied Technologies based out of Colorado. They needed an elegant, modular solution that could nest a large number of LED’s with custom designed lenses to maximize light emission and direction.
We went through a process of ideation and computer analysis to determine the amount of surface area needed to dissipate the heat generated by the LED units. Many other competing products fail due to overheating of the LED modules and their drivers. We also wanted to create a shape that could tessellate while remaining aesthetically pleasing when in various configurations.
Thermal dissipation, light emission, wire routing, and protection from the elements were all critical variables in executing this design. Below are some pictures of the process from initial machined prototypes to final powder coated castings.
